We had us a party last Sunday.
A Mario party at that. It was a lot of fun.
I was really pretty happy with how everything turned out.
This was the first time I actually made more of the decorations and favors rather than bought.
It's a win win situation and I will never go back.
I save money and get to be crafty.
I would like to thank Pinterest for making this all possible. Without you, I would be stuck spending $200 on a Mario birthday party package from a huge online birthday party retailer.
And it would be no fun.
I did however order these Mario figurines off the internet. But they are cool and actually toys that Ayden can keep and play with after the party is over.
I LOVE LOVE these Boo balloons. So much fun hanging around, they are.
This was everything that came from the party store (Except the mustaches. I made those). Not much. But just enough to make it officially "Mario". Plus I can't make Mario plates and cups I don't think.
Popcorn pretty much always makes a good birthday party snack.
These are our mushroom cupcakes. I think they turned out way cute. And you can imagine the relief when the icing "dried" red after it sat a while. When we first mixed it it was a nice shade of pink. Despite an entire bottle of red food coloring.....
That can't be healthy.
I made these brick blocks full of gold coins just like the ones that Mario smashes in the game. The kids tried to play along and smash them open using their heads like Mario, but paper taped together just doesn't have that smash effect.
It was more like a crunch and then rip it open. But whatever. It still poured gold coins and that was good.
Mario twins!!!!!
My little Luigi. She's so handsome.
Our other Luigi.
That would be the best Grandad in the world right there folks. Can't you tell?
We took the party outside to play some fun games and be loud and rowdy.
First up was the Yoshi Egg Spoon Race.
It was a good challenge and all ages got to play.
\
Look at that concentration!
Aaaaaaaaaaand there it goes:(
Then we had a blast doing Pin the Mustache on Mario. That was hilarious!
Some were soooo close!
Others not so much.....
Annabelle left the general vicinity entirely.
"CRUNCH! RIP!" Oh wait. I mean "BAM" SMASH"!!!!
Coins!!
Even our smaller guests had a good time I think.
Littlest Luigi!!!!! Love him!!
Then came time for the big Bike Reveal.
"AWESOME!!!"
Thanks Nana and Grandad!!!!!
I super loved this gift idea from his Aunt Mimi. She always has the really cool neat fun gifts. And they almost always include cash. Double awesome.
Wad. Of. Cash.
Look at that ADORABLE card made by Granny featuring a baby picture of Ayden! I love the scrapbookiness of it.
So cute.
And sorry but that is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen ever.
Ayden made almost the entire cake himself. I pretty much only baked it then he did the rest.
I think he did a pretty great job.
He has good culinary skills.
Luigi and Mario.....
I had a blast making those hats and mustaches. I am glad everyone had fun dressing up with them.
Ayden armpit farted the entire "Happy Birthday" song.
That is another one of his great skills.
Dude can do armpit farts in like three or four parts on his body.
*my apologies to anyone I have just offended. sorry*
And lastly we got to burn off all that sugar busting up the pinata.
Except that it broke after only the second kid took a swing at it.
Man.
Lame trap doors.
But the kids got a TON of candy and loot. And that was what they were going for so it was all good.
But to overcome the letdown of not getting to completely beat to a pulp a pinata with a baseball bat we let them have at it.
That is exactly what they were ready to do.
Why do they put the lame little trap door on the bottom that dumps the candy out??
It looks like there is no problem opening it the right way.
I think everyone had a good time. I know I did! I had fun all week getting ready for it too!
Now if I could just get it in gear and start planning Annabelle's party coming up in a couple of weeks.....
