Dinner Date

There is a Cardinal couple that lives in the back of the yard, in the tangly bushes along the fence line.

I first found them over the Winter collecting stickers out in the dead grass, I am guessing for nesting material. And I have been enjoying their company ever since. Out of all of our bird friends they are my favorites.
I filled the bird feeders back up today and they were the first to show up for dinner this evening.

I love how here the male looks like he just might be in the dog house and she's all "Oh nu uh!".

Poor guy is trying to work it out.

Then she's all like "Oh I just can't stay mad at you!"

He really does treat her like a lady though.

Goes to get her food when she is still a little too nervous to go down there.

Digging for her favorites (might be sunflower seeds).

Shows her that it is fine and safe. No cats around.

Brings the food back when she is still not quite convinced.

She finally lets loose and joins him at the bird seed buffet.

He is honestly talking to her. Look at that look he is giving her.

He is always by her side.

When they are separated there is rarely more than a few feet of distance between them.

And it looks something like this:

Just hanging out on the tree.....

Girlfriend is getting nervous!!!!

They really are so entertaining to watch. I love them.

And then of course here comes the doves? pigeons? as soon as there is available seating. They totally waited on the cardinals to get done.

I don't think they noticed why exactly the cardinals were done though.........
